Quebec and Ontario Bar Exam

Tutoring

Reduce the stress of writing your Bar Exams

Are you stressed about writing the Bar? You are most definitely not alone. Work with our experienced tutors to give you that extra edge to push you over the top.

We do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Our tutoring is flexible and will be catered to your needs and wants. Our goal is to help you better understand the subject material for your exams while also helping you get into the “Bar Exam” mindset. For example, when going over the subject material, your tutor will emphasize the articles which are trickier and for which you need to have a better grasp. Using examples from past exams, your tutor will then bring you through the process to better understand how the Bar has asked questions on those articles to prepare you for what will most likely be on your actual exam.

Not interested in tutoring, but rather looking for a coach to help you through your prep. No problem, our tutors can also help you on that front and can meet with you on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis to help you prepare for your exams.

Concerned about the new Quebec Bar exam format, we got you covered having already worked with students during the pilot project and the first iterations of this new exam format. Unfortunately, the new Quebec Bar format is just as difficult as the previous one (if not even more difficult), but now the onus is completely on you to self-study the material.

Never been tutored or coached before; neither have many of our students. Since the Bar Exam is a completely different type of exam from the ones which you had in university, you need to prepare differently. Although knowledge of the law is important, you need to get into the “Bar Exam” mindset and understand what type of questions you will be confronted with and how to answer those questions to maximize your points.

All of our tutors are all licensed lawyers and have the advantage of experience from their own practice to help you understand the subject material. Sessions can either be in English, French or bilingual.

Our tutoring and coaching is completely virtual, so it can be done from the convenience of your home. Generally, the tutoring sessions are either an hour or an hour and a half long. Hour and a half sessions are recommended.

If cost is a barrier, consider Duo or Trio tutoring to reduce the per-person cost of the tutoring or coaching sessions. But do not forget that the cost of tutoring or coaching will quickly pay for itself if it saves you from not having to wait another year to write the Bar again.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens during each tutoring session?

Tutoring sessions normally start with a debrief on how your studying is progressing, followed by a question-and-answer period to go over any questions you might have since your last session, and then your tutor will work with you to help you understand the relevant material and the types of questions the Bar likes to ask in that regard.

What are coaching sessions?

Coaching sessions are to help you come up with a study schedule and the different components required for a successful Bar Exam writing, and then our coach works with you to keep you on track with that schedule. Coaching is included with our standard tutoring sessions and is also offered as a standalone service.

How long before my exams should I start tutoring or coaching sessions?

We recommend that you begin your tutoring and coaching as soon as possible to minimize the last-minute panic before your exams. For some context, we have many students who sign up for 4 months or 8 months of tutoring before their exams.

How many tutoring sessions will I need before my exams?

Every student has their own learning speed and initial comprehension level, so there is no standard answer to this question, but 1-2 sessions per subject is a good starting point.

What should I prepare in advance for each of my Tutoring sessions?

If you have the time, read the law on the subject you will be covering during your upcoming session and keep a list of questions which you want to ask your tutor during your session. Ideally, send those questions to your tutor before your session.

I've never used a tutoring or a coaching service before, what should I know in advance?

You are not alone as for many of our students, this is also their first time using a tutoring or coaching service. As our tutoring and coaching services are customized to address exactly what you are looking for, our tutors will make you feel perfectly at home, so there is the smallest possible learning curve.

What language is the tutoring or coaching service offered in?

English, French of bilingual. Are you an English student who studied law in French? No problem, we even offer bilingual sessions where the law is reviewed in French, but the rest of the tutoring is done in English.

How long should each tutoring or coaching session be?

We generally recommend that you start with 1.5 hour long sessions, but many students prefer 2 hour sessions.

For Duo or Trio tutoring, are there open groups or do I need to find my fellow group members?

You need to find your own group members and we suggest that you try to find similarly minded students who will study well with you. At the present time, we do not have any open groups.

Are there different tutors for each subject or does one tutor cover all subjects?

One tutor covers all of the subjects to take advantage of the relationship that you have formed with your tutor who better understands your learning and studying style.

How long in advance do I need to warn my tutor if I can't make a session?

Please let your tutor know as soon as possible if you need to cancel a session, but no less than 2 days in advance.

What types of payment methods do you accept?

Payment is to be made via Interac e-transfer, but feel free to contact us if you want to make alternative arrangements.
